Engineering hiring brief · 2026

What Cursor is to engineers, Maxima is to accountants.

Maxima is building the first real AI financial-close platform, a system that turns the slow, manual, month-long book close into a continuous close. The hard problems here are engineering problems: unifying mission-critical financial data into one real-time workflow, then putting correct, auditable automation on top. They’re hiring two senior engineers to own that surface.

01 · Problem

What’s the actual technical problem?

Enterprise accounting is a $300B function still run on manual reconciliation and spreadsheets. Teams spend 20–22 days every month closing their books, and the data lives fragmented across GLs, ERPs, CRMs, and billing systems, with no real-time visibility until the close is already over. It’s the last major enterprise function untouched by modern automation.

This means ingesting and unifying that financial data into one real-time source of truth, then running accurate, auditable accounting logic and agents on top. Correctness and trust are the bar, this is books, not analytics.

02 · Product

How is the product architected?

Three layers. The agent only works because the two layers beneath it are real.

L3 · Agent

AI junior accountant

Memory · Excel · messaging · agentic workflows.

L2 · Logic

Domain accounting logic

Reconciliation · flux analysis · accruals & revenue · close tasking · audit trails.

L1 · Data

Unified financial data layer

GL · ERP · CRM · billing → one real-time workflow.

Long-term vision: continuous close, books that close on day zero.

03 · Org & team

Who you’d be working with.

~20 engineers, with low attrition, the team that built this is still here. It’s a TypeScript / React shop with a high pedigree bar: Google, Meta, Airbnb, Robinhood, Apple, Netflix, Twitter, Glean, and top HFT firms.

Investors consistently rank Maxima the strongest technical + domain team in the category, people who have solved this exact problem at scale, in-house.

Senior / Staff · Frontend

Senior/Staff Frontend Engineer

The mandate. Most of the team currently leans backend, so there’s a need for frontend leadership. You’d own the user-facing surfaces end to end, from the agent interactions customers rely on daily to the data-dense workflows that power their financial operations.
  • Design UX patterns for agentic workflows
  • Architect performant, data-dense interfaces for complex financial workflows
  • Build and scale the design system and component architecture across an expanding product surface
  • Translate intricate accounting workflows into clean, enterprise-friendly interfaces
What we’re looking for:
  • Typically 5+ years building production web apps at high-growth companies
  • Deep expertise in modern frontend, React, TypeScript, and the broader ecosystem
  • Strong eye for design and interaction details
  • Bonus: data-dense interfaces or streaming/agentic UX
  • Comfort touching APIs, schemas, or backend to ship end-to-end
  • Loves in-person culture, 5 days a week in downtown San Mateo

Senior · Founding-style

DevOps / DevSecOps Engineer

GCP · Terraform · CI/CD · SOC 2
The mandate. Enterprise customers bring serious security and compliance requirements, and the bar across AI companies is rising sharply. You’d be the first or second DevOps hire, owning the whole stack: GCP, Terraform, CI/CD, firewalls, SOC 2, and infra posture end-to-end.
  • Why now: high-profile breaches plus growing enterprise compliance demands made this a structural priority, not a nice-to-have
  • The infra has to scale with the customer base, and stay audit-ready while it does

06 · Traction & why now

Backed to define the category.

Traction

A $41M Series A at a $143M valuation, 40+ enterprise logos, including Scale AI, SpotOn, Rippling, and Gorgias. Demand keeps accelerating as finance teams modernize the close.

Why now

It’s the last untouched enterprise function, with a team that’s solved it in-house, and it’s early enough that two senior hires set the technical direction for the next decade of the product.

Backed by Audacious · Redpoint · Kleiner Perkins. Trusted by finance teams at Scale AI, SpotOn, Rippling, Gorgias, +36 more.

The platform that will define the next decade of enterprise finance infrastructure.

Two senior hires set the technical direction. If correctness and trust are the kind of bar you want to clear, let’s talk.
